Wrapping up 2017
While the lack of posts in recent months might suggest the research has been moving slowly, quite the contrary! In fact, so much is happening in this arena in Australia at the moment it is has been hard to find the time to keep you up to date. In the closing quarter of 2017 there have been many AMUHP related highlights, including (in approximately chronological order):
- the project has received some funding from the University of South Australia to support data collection and to help connect researchers in the area
- multiple projects have 'hit the market' or are calling for participants in the West, the East and the South of the country
- Jasmine hosted a public event at the South Australian 'Open State' Festival under the title of "Citizen-led housing." With speakers community, industry and government from three states and MC'ed by Elle Vallance of Adelaide Co-Housing, the event was well attended and has established collaborations with the potential to seed exciting new projects in the near future. See it on you tube. Thanks to RenewalSA and Water Sensitive SA for supporting our interstate speakers to attend.
- many, many interviews were conducted with key stakeholders in AMUHP projects in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, taking the total tally of interviews at the end of 2017 into the 50s.
- a conference paper drawing results from the initial interviews conducted in Perth in 2017 was presented at the State of Australian Cities Conference. The paper is titled: "Developing multi-unit housing without developers" or "Without developers, who does the ... ... ” and will be available on line in the new year.
- the nightingale village was announced and we will likely be hearing more about that soon.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed their time and wisdom to the project in 2017.
Regards,
Jasmine Palmer
